Based on real events, challenging new work that examines the role of ordinary people in extraordinary times is coming to The Coterie Theatre. Get ready to witness The White Rose: We Defied Hitler on Saturday, January 25th!
This gripping and intriguing play tells the true story of Sophie Scholl, a German college student who led an act of public resistance against the Nazis during the Second World War. The play contains little-known facts about Sophie, her brother Hans, and the civil disobedience of the White Rose movement in Nazi Germany. Scholl’s moral strength is tested while being interrogated for her crimes, leading her to question whether to save her own life or continue her righteous crusade.
The White Rose: We Defied Hitler is a co-production with UMKC Theatre. From its humble beginnings in 1964 as an offshoot of the Speech Department, UMKC Theatre has grown and expanded into a well-respected, world-renowned faculty that includes working theatre professionals and famed theatre artists teaching as visiting professors.
Established in 1979, The Coterie Theatre provides professional classic and contemporary theatre which challenges audiences and artists and provides educational, dramatic outreach programs in the community. The Coterie seeks to open lines of communication between all by redefining children’s theatre to include families and diverse audiences.
